Theme For Orpheus

This theme was composed as an aural illustration for the life of Orpheus, focusing on his peaceful times, rather than on the drama that he experienced.

Theme For Eurydice

After Orpheus lost Eurydice in the Underworld he was devastated. He drank for 3 days and woke up on a ship going to the Isle of Lesbos. When he disembarked he met the women there, and feeling somewhat irascible he began to insult them. They promptly dismembered him and threw his head into the sea. His head floated out into the open sea, but the electrical charges remaining continued to fire his cerebral synapses. Listening to the waves he composed a threnody for Eurydice. The sound of the dolphins' sonar calls inspired him to include their song into the music he was creating. A few thousand years later I was in a little rowing boat off the island of Lesbos. I saw an unusual looking object floating in the water. It was a very old severed human head. I used a net and brought in onboard. Being an inquisitive doctor I put on my stethoscope and applied it to the head. I heard music. I then attached microphones to the head and recorded the music. This is it.

Pete Swinton is a half Hungarian, half Polish man born in London, UK in 1961. Since 2015 he has lived in Jawa, Indonesia. He began playing guitar in the '70s. He started playing keyboards in the 2000s. He makes Ambient and Experimental music. And a cross between the 2 which he calls Insanbient music. He likes cats and motorbikes. ... more
