This album is inspired by the book The Heart Of The Hunter by Laurens van der Post, published in 1961. It is about his travels in the Kalahari Desert with a small crew and some Bushmen. It is the second book he wrote about the mind and spirit of Africa's first inhabitants, also telling of their myths.

He may be better known as the writer of the short story The Seed And The Sower which was adapted for a film in 1983 as Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, directed by Nagisa Oshima and starring David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Takeshi Kitano, set in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Jawa Barat, Indonesia. The title theme tune was written by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
